Asset Designer

We are seeking a detail-oriented Asset Designer to join our team supporting significant energy projects. This role offers a unique opportunity for full-cycle engineering involvement, including field work, permitting, and design, setting it apart from other firms that separate these functions. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility design or a degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field investigations and collect data for substation and distribution projects.
  • Develop detailed asset designs using AutoCAD, MicroStation, SolidWorks, and Duke-specific platforms.
  • Prepare permit packages and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure design accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain and update asset records in Duke's systems.
  • Support long-term work orders assigned by substations, with projects spanning several months.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in design and drafting software, including AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Experience or knowledge in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Design.
  • Familiarity with power system design, including substation and distribution design.
  • Ability to perform field engineering tasks and data collection.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in asset design, electrical distribution, or utility infrastructure.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering is preferred, but not required if the candidate has strong hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge of Duke-specific platforms like BOUD, SEDs, and SolidWorks.

Work Environment:

The role offers a balanced 50/50 split between office and field functions. Our office environment is dynamic and positive, featuring a new 1900 sqft space equipped with amenities like a foosball table and shuffleboard. We support a collaborative and engaged team, working on a long-term program that will significantly enhance power distribution reliability. We offer great benefits, including an ESOP with a 6% salary contribution, a 401K with a 50% match up to 6% of salary, yearly performance raises, and excellent healthcare benefits.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
