BIM Designer

The BIM Designer supports multidisciplinary design teams by developing precise building information models and construction documents for projects across healthcare, commercial, industrial, and faith-based sectors. This role uses advanced BIM tools to deliver coordinated, accurate, and efficient design solutions that align with project goals and client requirements, while offering clear potential to grow into an Architect role and pursue licensure for individuals with the appropriate educational background.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models for architectural and engineering systems, including MEP and structural components.
  • Produce high-quality construction documents such as plans, sections, wall sections, and details directly from BIM models.
  • Coordinate BIM models with internal project teams, including architecture, engineering, and interior design disciplines, to ensure design alignment and consistency.
  • Assist in clash detection and model coordination efforts to identify and resolve conflicts, improving overall project efficiency and constructability.
  • Update BIM models and related documentation based on redlines, markups, and ongoing design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project teams through all phases of design and documentation, from early design development through final construction documents.
  • Maintain drawing standards, file organization, and BIM best practices to ensure consistency and quality across projects.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to help ensure project schedules, milestones, and deliverables are met.
  • Apply a solid understanding of building design, including exterior building materials, roofs, and other key building elements, to enhance model accuracy and completeness.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Revit with the ability to independently produce complete, coordinated construction drawings.
  • Hands-on experience developing and managing BIM models for building design projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce construction documents, including wall sections, exterior building materials, roof details, and other building elements.
  • Strong understanding of building design principles and building information modeling (BIM) workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and interior designers in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Solid organizational skills to maintain drawing standards, file structures, and consistent documentation practices.
  • Openness to various experience levels and educational backgrounds, with a strong preference for experience and education aligned with BIM and building design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with BIM tools and processes related to construction and design; broader and deeper BIM experience is highly valued.
  • Architecture or design-related education that supports potential growth into an Architect position and pursuit of professional licensure.
  • Experience working on healthcare projects or within the healthcare sector is a plus.
  • Familiarity with architectural drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Understanding of building information modeling best practices across architecture, MEP engineering, structural engineering, and interior design.
  • Interest in long-term career growth within a stable, multidisciplinary design environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a laid-back, relaxed office located just off the interstate north of downtown Fort Wayne, in a cubicle-style setting that supports focus and collaboration. The team includes in-house architecture, MEP engineering, structural engineering, and interior design disciplines, creating a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The organization places a strong emphasis on work–life balance, promoting a philosophy that balances work, personal beliefs, and family. Flexible hours are available, and team members are trusted to manage their time as long as they meet their responsibilities, without a culture of clock-watching or mandatory out-of-office events. The workload is stable, with a long history of steady employment and very minimal layoffs, supported by a robust portfolio with a strong emphasis on healthcare projects. Compensation is provided as a salary paid at the end of each month, with flexibility to issue an early paycheck when needed. Benefits include competitive offerings with partial premium coverage for core health benefits, a 401(k) plan with a 100% match up to 5%, and access to a company car when traveling for work. Performance and pay reviews occur annually in the spring, with potential for bonuses or pay increases based on company performance. The culture encourages professional development, and this BIM role offers a clear pathway to grow into an Architect position and pursue licensure for those with the appropriate degree.
