Distribution Designer I

As a Distribution Designer, you will independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. The majority of the work involves overhead systems. You will be responsible for reviewing client-provided work, assessing requirements, and designing using Open Utilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
• Complete designs using Open Utilities and industry-specific design software.
• Perform energy analysis to ensure selected materials meet site requirements.
• Build a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered into SAP/Material Tracking Software.
• Assist with permits for utility lines and manage revisions with Quality Control.
• Communicate frequently via e-mail, phone, and teams with clients.
• Utilize software such as Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis for structural analysis.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Power Distribution Design, and Bill of Materials.
• Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, Microstation.
• Knowledge of NESC codes and National Electric Safety Codes is a plus.

Education and Experience

• Engineering Degree or an associate degree in design or relevant Design experience and a High School Diploma.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with utility industry or power grid courses is a plus.
• Internships or co-ops with major utility companies like Consumers Energy, DTE, Duke Energy.
• Experience with Quality Control or Quality Assurance work.
• Ability to interact with the client directly.
• Ability to drive your personal car for Fielding as needed.

Work Environment

• Work will be a combination of home and local office in Big Rapids, Cadillac, MI.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Big Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
