Distribution Design Technician (DDT)

Location: Tampa, FL

Work Type: Full-Time | On-site (Field & Office Work) | Contract to Hire

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Distribution Design Technician (DDT) to support annual upgrades of 20–30 feeders to Storm Specification. This role involves a mix of field data collection and office-based design work, contributing to the reliability and resilience of our electrical distribution system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field data collection (2–3 days/week) and office-based design work (2–3 days/week).
  • Utilize company vehicles for field operations.
  • Process Work Requests (WR) in Work Management System (WMS), dividing jobs into appropriate work phases.
  • Perform technical analysis and calculations to determine optimal, cost-effective solutions for customers and the distribution system.
  • Estimate electrical loads and model field conditions using tools like PoleForeman.
  • Create and update electrical asset data in GIS, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Produce construction prints for internal teams and contractors, including Maintenance-of-Traffic (MOT) plans when necessary.
  • Review financial data in WMS to ensure proper classification and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley standards.

Required Skills & Tools

  • Distribution design (overhead & underground)
  • Electrical and utility design
  • GIS mapping and CAD drafting
  • Tools: GTech, WMS, BOUD, Design Manager, MicroStation, AutoCAD, STORMS, PoleForeman

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in work order management, CAD drafting, or GIS mapping
  • — OR —
  • 1 year of direct experience as a Distribution Design Field Inspector, lineworker, or electrician
  • — OR —
  • A relevant college degree may substitute for equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior roles as a Service Area Coordinator (SAC), GIS Technician, Distribution Design Field Inspector, or Lineworker.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $50.00/hr.
