Electrical Distribution Engineer Or Designer

Our client is seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer or Designer to support the modeling and design of overhead power lines, including joint-use attachments. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, quality, and constructability of designs, calculations, and estimates for utility projects of varying sizes. The primary work scope includes pole replacement projects, as well as underground and overhead cable sizing and pulling for distribution systems in Calgary. The Distribution Designer/Engineer will prepare high-quality design packages for client or project team handoff, ensure on-schedule delivery, and address design-related issues and field questions throughout project execution. They will work closely with project management to help deliver profitable, on-time design/build projects.

Responsibilities:

• Model and design overhead power lines, including joint-use attachments
• Support pole replacement projects and distribution cable sizing (underground and overhead)
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings based on sketches and engineering inputs
• Deliver complete, accurate, and constructible design packages
• Resolve design issues and respond to field-level questions during project execution
• Review and interpret electrical and construction plans from utilities, consultants, and customers
• Collaborate with project management to meet schedule and profitability goals

Essential Skills:

• 1+ years of experience as an electrical distribution designer or engineer
• Registration or eligibility for registration as: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA, or Technologist-in-Training with ASET, or Associate Member with OACETT
• Experience with overhead line design and pole replacement
• Ability to create engineering drawings from sketches and general design information
• Ability to read and understand electrical and construction plans
• Proficiency in AutoCAD

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• EIT designation
• PLS-CADD experience and strong theoretical background
• Ability to develop cost estimates from drawings and scopes of work
• Experience with relevant design/project software such as Bluebeam, MicroStation, and AutoCAD

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
