Distribution Designer
This position involves providing distribution design for overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV. The role includes overseeing design activities, conducting quality reviews, monitoring and maintaining project schedules, reporting changes impacting schedules and budgets, identifying and mitigating risks, and presenting opportunities for design and construction improvements. Mentoring lower-level designers is also a key aspect of this role.
Responsibilities:
- Design overhead and/or underground distribution facilities.
- Prepare design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and other necessary construction documents.
- Apply client's standards, guidelines, specifications, and industry practices in preparing designs.
- Perform distribution system design calculations.
- Prepare and oversee preparation of design documents including plan and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Communicate with clients and engineers regarding system requirements and identify Right of Way for proposed equipment.
- Acquire field data as necessary and collaborate with field surveying to prepare appropriate designs.
- Promote and conduct quality reviews of designs to ensure compliance with client standards and safety requirements.
- Check and validate project drawings and those prepared by peers.
Essential Skills:
- Five plus years of experience in the design of electric utility distribution systems.
- Five years of experience using AutoCAD or Microstation for electrical design.
- Five years of experience with distribution design software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent experience and/or education.
Work Environment:
The work environment involves using technologies such as AutoCAD, Microstation, and distribution design software. The role may require field visits to acquire necessary data for design preparations. Candidates will work within a consulting or utility setting where collaboration with engineering professionals and adherence to industry standards and safety practices are key.
Job Type & Location:
This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, Arizona.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
