Distribution Designer

Join our dynamic team as a Distribution Designer, where you will work on the design and construction of both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. These systems operate from 4kV through 138kV and include a range of projects such as overloaded transformers, joint use assignments, and street lighting projects. Your role will involve developing work packages using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, and Work Management Systems (WMS). You will also perform engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, and coordination of protective devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control, safety practices, and project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles and electric demand.
  • Prepare forestry trimming requests and facilitate permit and Right-of-Way acquisition.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) and estimate project costs.
  • Advocate for customers by acquiring easements or calculating customer contributions.
  • Assist with tasks that contribute to the team's development and execution of client work packages.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in design, distribution design, and power distribution.
  • Experience with CAD, AutoCAD, ESRI, MicroStation, and GIS.
  • Understanding of NESC and structural pole modeling.
  • Strong project and financial management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, and distribution automation projects.
  • Experience in developing civil and electrical packages in dense urban environments.
  • Associate degree in engineering technology or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Teams.
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork, including potential local or regional travel.

Work Environment:

This role involves a combination of field and office work. You will work with advanced technologies such as GIS, CAD tools, and collaborative platforms. The position requires flexibility for potential travel to collect field data, ensuring the successful development of customer work packages.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
