Distribution Designer (Trainee)
We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a full-time position for a Distribution Designer (Trainee) to join our team on a contract basis. Depending on performance, the selected individual could be considered for a full-time job offer. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.
Key activities include liaising with project stakeholders, completing project designs and performing quality assurance functions.
The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team, currently approximately 80 employees, in Western Canada, delivering projects to a variety of utility clients with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. We are looking for people that take responsibility, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Training and mentorship in Distribution Design will be provided to set up the selected candidate for success in the role and contributing to projects.
This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.
Our operation is under a Hybrid work model (3 days in office | 2 days from home).
Job Requirements
- Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient using MS Office and AutoCAD software
Considered an Asset
- Graduate from British Columbia Institute of Technology's (BCIT) Power and Industrial Control Diploma Program (or similar program), with a GPA at 75% (3.0/4.0) or greater
- Applied knowledge of or experience in Underground (UG) and/or Overhead (OH) power distribution systems is considered an asset
- Experience using SPIDAcalc, PLS-CADD, DAD and/or Passport is considered an asset
Job Responsibilities
- Design underground and overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.
- Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.
- Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions, such as pull planner.
- Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.
- Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.
- Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.
- Checking and reviewing work of peers
- Prepare issue for construction packages
- Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
- Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews
- And other tasks as directed by leadership
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.50 - $26.50/hr.
