This role focuses on developing, updating, and maintaining accurate facility as-built drawings to support a busy facilities team within an industrial manufacturing environment. The AutoCAD Drafter / Designer performs on-site field verification, takes precise measurements, and documents existing conditions so that facility documentation consistently reflects real-world layouts and infrastructure. The position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working directly in active manufacturing or industrial settings and collaborating closely with facilities and engineering teams to support space planning, facility modifications, maintenance planning, and capital improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain accurate facility as-built drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Perform on-site field verification of existing buildings, utilities, equipment layouts, and infrastructure.
  • Take precise field measurements and thoroughly document pre-existing site conditions.
  • Translate field notes, sketches, and observations into clear, accurate CAD drawings.
  • Verify existing drawings against actual site conditions and identify, document, and help resolve discrepancies.
  • Support facilities and engineering teams by providing reliable documentation for space planning, facility modifications, maintenance planning, and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain organized drawing files, including layering standards, naming conventions, and revision control processes.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including facilities and engineering, to validate information and ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Apply knowledge of drafting techniques, principles, and practices to produce clear and buildable drawings.
  • Lay out assemblies, sub-assemblies, and details accurately and effectively for fabrication.
  • Incorporate basic weld symbols and related information into drawings as needed.
  • Perform document revisions and updates in response to design changes or field-identified issues.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings to ensure consistency and alignment with existing conditions.
  • Manage multiple drawing updates and assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Adhere to all site safety policies and procedures when working in operational industrial and manufacturing areas.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as an AutoCAD Drafter, ideally supporting facilities, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) for drafting and design work.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and updating as-built drawings.
  • Ability to perform on-site field verification and measurement in active industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of drafting techniques, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to visualize and accurately lay out assemblies, sub-assemblies, and details for fabrication.
  • Basic understanding of weld symbols and how to apply them in drawings.
  • Solid understanding of building layouts and basic architectural elements such as walls and doors.
  • Solid understanding of basic MEP elements, including utilities and equipment locations.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong commitment to documentation accuracy.
  • Effective written communication skills for documenting conditions and revising drawings.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple drawing updates and tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach to managing drawings, revisions, and documentation.
  • Ability to positively and proactively handle multiple assignments within a demanding environment.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing, production, and/or industrial environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with mechanical, architectural, and structural drawings.
  • Experience with mechanical design and mechanical drafting.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor or similar design tools.
  • Experience with document revision control processes and standards.
  • Comfort working hands-on in active manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with facilities and engineering stakeholders to validate information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Strong time management skills to balance field work and drawing production.

Work Environment

The role is based on-site in an industrial manufacturing environment. The AutoCAD Drafter / Designer will split time between a dedicated workspace for drawing and documentation and the production areas for field verification, measurements, and site walks. The setting includes active manufacturing operations, equipment, and utilities, and requires adherence to all site safety policies and procedures. Proper clothing and appropriate attire are essential when walking the site and performing hands-on field work. The position operates during daytime hours with some flexibility in the schedule, typically within a range such as 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role uses AutoCAD and related drafting tools on a regular basis, and involves frequent interaction with facilities and engineering personnel.
