Electrical Designer

The Electrical Designer will lead the electrical design for assigned projects, including client-facing meetings, and manage the scope, budget, and schedule. This role involves designing electrical raceway systems and modeling 3D equipment for power plant systems. Collaboration with engineering to ensure code compliance and effective cable routing is essential. The designer will develop production drawings, perform quality checks, and resolve comments on checked drawings. They will work with our integrated EPC team and clients to execute RFIs, deliverable reviews, and change order requests, while fostering high-performing teams. The position requires mentoring team members and improving customer satisfaction and work quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design projects, managing scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Design electrical raceway systems, including duct banks and conduits.
  • Model 3D equipment items for power plant systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure code compliance and effective cable routing.
  • Plan and develop drawings, including design studies and calculations.
  • Perform quality checks and resolve comments on checked drawings.
  • Complete as-builts using RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked drawings.
  • Work collaboratively with EPC team and clients on RFIs, deliverables, and change orders.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing technical guidance.
  • Improve customer satisfaction and work quality.
  • Develop and implement design guidelines and procedures.
  • Stay updated with industry practices and technologies.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications.
  • Perform quality checks for design consistency and safety.
  • Establish credibility in technical competency and team leadership.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in electrical design, schematic creation, and SCADA.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D and Aconex Document Controls software.
  • Understanding of construction and constructability practices.
  • Experience in proposal and estimate processes.
  • Background in owner or client engineering.
  • Field experience in electrical power or resident designer roles.
  • Ability to use 2D and 3D applications for engineering drawings.
  • Advanced skills in design software such as SCADA Systems, PanelDES, ElecDES, E3D, Plant 3D, Smartplant 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, API, NEC, and other industry standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in drafting technology, design, or related fields, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
  • Eight years of experience in the related work field.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new design software programs.
  • Experience in team environments and ability to accept direction.
  • Positive and productive support for project teams and departments.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and a systems thinker.
  • Proactive guidance on department design guides and standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplined project team.
  • Knowledge of quality program compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable with change and ambiguity.

Work Environment

The work environment includes collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and constructability personnel. Work is performed during normal operating hours, with the possibility of overtime and weekends as required. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and effective communication, both oral and written. The position involves using advanced raceway or electrical modeling in a dynamic and supportive team environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Leawood, KS.

Pay and Benefits
