Electrical Designer

The Electrical Designer functions in a lead technical role, providing advanced design expertise within the electrical engineering discipline. This position solves complex design challenges, contributes to innovative engineering solutions, and ensures the technical quality of project deliverables. The role heavily utilizes digital design tools and software, including CAD, BIM, 3D modeling, and MicroStation, to create, modify, and maintain detailed electrical drawings and documentation for power generation projects. The Electrical Designer also supports coordination across departments and teams to meet project schedules and budgets while guiding and supervising design activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform advanced electrical design activities for power generation projects, from conceptual design through detailed design.
  • Apply deep technical expertise to solve complex electrical design challenges and support the development of innovative engineering solutions.
  • Create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables using digital design tools such as CAD, BIM, 3D modeling, and MicroStation.
  • Ensure the technical quality, accuracy, and completeness of electrical design outputs and documentation.
  • Monitor and support adherence to project schedules and budgets for assigned design tasks and deliverables.
  • Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines, departments, project teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Supervise and guide engineering technicians and support staff in conceptual and detailed electrical design tasks.
  • Oversee and review the work of design team members to ensure consistency with standards, procedures, and project requirements.
  • Follow standardized design procedures and best practices to maintain uniformity and efficiency across project documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and workflows within the electrical discipline.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience working as an Electrical Designer or in a similar electrical design role.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D modeling tools for electrical design.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation for creating and modifying electrical drawings and models.
  • Strong technical expertise in electrical design for power generation projects.
  • Ability to apply advanced electrical engineering design principles to solve complex design challenges.
  • Proficiency with digital design tools and software, including CAD and BIM platforms.
  • Ability to ensure technical quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance for design tasks.
  • Experience coordinating design activities across departments, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise, coordinate, and guide engineering technicians and support staff on design activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate and high-quality technical documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working on power generation projects, including conceptual and detailed electrical design.
  • Familiarity with standardized design procedures and documentation practices.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and support less experienced team members in design tools and methods.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple design tasks and deliverables simultaneously.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $90.00/hr.
