Mechanical Designer

The Mechanical Designer will collaborate closely with the Mechanical Engineering Managers, Design Lead, and various design teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective completion of projects. The role involves applying the Eclipse Vision and Entrepreneurial Culture to all tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations relating to machine and tool designs, considering factors such as strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, and hardness during equipment, process, and product development.
  • Examine the feasibility of using multiple machines for sequential operations.
  • Produce working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Ensure designs and systems comply with applicable standards, such as OSHA and CE.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, and hardness.
  • Communicate design changes to the Applications Manager.
  • Update and formalize drawing documentation.
  • Reverse engineer components and assemblies using precision measurement equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors, fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians to complete equipment and resolve issues.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings.
  • Adhere to health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Work flexibly, including weekends and travel, to meet project timelines.
  • Ensure scheduled milestones are met and notify appropriate departments if not.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all business activities.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Thorough knowledge of drafting principles.
  • Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Understanding of electrical devices such as switches, load cells, and LVDTs.
  • 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Design and Engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certified SolidWorks Associate.
  • Experience with Revit is an asset.

Work Environment:

The role is based on-site in Cambridge, with the possibility of remote work on Mondays and Fridays if independence and reliability are proven. Core hours are 9am latest start, with a morning kickoff meeting at 9:30am. Most designers work from 7am to 3:30pm. The team is growing rapidly, providing opportunities for career advancement and gaining valuable nuclear experience.

This is a Contract position based out of Cambridge, ON.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Cambridge, ON.
