Mechanical Designer

The Mechanical Designer will develop high-quality surface models in SolidWorks and translate complex mechanical and ergonomic requirements into manufacturable designs. This role focuses on creating precise, comfortable, and functional human interface components while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality surface models using SolidWorks to support complex mechanical designs.
  • Create and refine ergonomic, human interface surfaces that account for fit, comfort, sealing, and movement.
  • Apply advanced surfacing techniques, including loft, boundary, fill, curvature control, knit, and continuity, to achieve smooth, manufacturable geometry.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide expertise on surfacing, fit, form, and function.
  • Collaborate with systems, manufacturing, quality, and test teams throughout the product lifecycle to ensure design intent and manufacturability.
  • Design components suitable for 3D printing and ensure they meet performance and quality requirements.
  • Create clear, accurate engineering drawings and documentation that support production and testing.
  • Incorporate mechanical design fundamentals and basic GD&T principles into all design work.
  • Identify and resolve design issues through strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience using SolidWorks in a design engineering role.
  • Strong proficiency in surface modeling and complex geometry creation in SolidWorks.
  • Experience designing components to be 3D printed.
  • Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and basic GD&T.
  • Ability to create clear, accurate engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and mechanical design using CAD tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing components with human interface and ergonomic requirements.
  • Knowledge of materials such as silicone elastomers, flexible polymers, and injection molded plastics.
  • Exposure to human factors engineering or the use of anthropometric data in design.
  • Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments such as aerospace, defense, or medical.
  • Familiarity with advanced surfacing techniques including loft, boundary, fill, curvature control, knit, and continuity.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T application in mechanical design.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including systems, manufacturing, quality, and test.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment at the Fort Worth location, working closely with engineering and cross-functional teams. You will use SolidWorks and other CAD tools on a regular basis to support design, review, and documentation activities. The setting supports focused design work, collaborative design reviews, and interaction with teams across the product lifecycle.

This is a Permanent position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
