Mechanical Designer

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team, where you will be involved in various design phases. Your main responsibilities will include taking a tool based on a previous design and creating detailed drawings, performing calculations for sizing and tolerances, and ensuring no interferences. You will work closely with both internal and external partners to secure manufacturing approval.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations for materials strength, speeds, and forces related to designs.
  • Develop equipment drawings and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
  • Analyze designs for compliance with standards like OSHA and CE.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, and finishes.
  • Communicate design changes and task progress with team leads and management.
  • Collaborate with fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians in the completion of equipment and problem-solving.

Essential Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience in nuclear automation or automated tooling design.
  • Strong engineering experience, particularly in robotics and mechanical design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with custom tooling for the nuclear industry.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, N299, and NQA-1 standards.
  • An educational experience in Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in an automation environment is an asset.

Work Environment:

The position offers flexibility with the ability to work on-site initially for 3-4 days per week for the first month, after which the role can transition to fully remote, except for design reviews. Our team consists of 28 designers, with project-specific teams of 12-15 members, each supported by a lead designer. Our core hours are between 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. You will be working on refurbishment tooling systems for nuclear industry projects, with a focus on preliminary and detailed design.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Cambridge, Ontario.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

This is a fully remote position.
