Mechanical Designer

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Designer to join a dynamic team specializing in advanced training solutions for the aerospace and defense sectors. This role involves designing mechanical systems and creating comprehensive drawing packages for simulation products. You will contribute to the enhancement of existing products and collaborate on the development of new simulation technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop design concepts in AutoCAD Inventor based on assigned specifications.
  • Implement modeling techniques and design architecture as directed by the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
  • Create preliminary and detailed models in AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Develop detailed part and assembly drawings following internal drawing standards.
  • Participate in internal model and drawing release procedures.
  • Incorporate design changes based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare fabrication drawing packages for review.
  • Inspect fabricated parts and assemblies for quality and conformance as required.
  • Communicate closely with the assembly team to resolve design-related assembly issues.
  • Log and action Engineering Changes and Waivers.
  • Follow documented systems engineering standards and practices.
  • Participate in R&D projects as assigned.
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices in the integration facility.

Essential Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • 2+ years of experience with AutoDesk Inventor or equivalent CAD software.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, Autodesk software, and drafting.
  • Experience in modeling, GD&T, welding, and Autodesk Vault.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of skeleton modeling or top-down modeling techniques.
  • Application of GD&T callouts and tolerance stack-up.
  • Understanding of welding standards.
  • Experience with PDM software and methods, such as AutoDesk Vault.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to standards.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and deadline-driven.
  • Hands-on experience in assembling and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.

Work Environment:

The ideal candidate is located in Halifax but remote work is possible within Canada or Ontario. You will work closely with the mechanical engineering/design team and the assembly team. The environment supports collaboration and innovation while maintaining high standards for safety and quality.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Halifax, NS.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
