Mechanical Designer
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to create detailed designs and documentation for both new and existing products. This position involves creating 3D models, drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and other necessary documentation to fully define product specifications. The role requires independent management of small projects and contributions to larger projects, participation in product development processes, and the ability to perform complex calculations and analyses.
Responsibilities
- Design and document new and existing products using 3D models, drawings, and BOM.
- Research specifications and identify purchased components for design incorporation.
- Manage both small and parts of large scale projects independently.
- Direct and assist with the assembly of components and prototypes.
- Assist in developing engineering, drafting, and release standards.
- Perform tolerance stack analysis of complex assemblies before documentation release.
- Participate in design brainstorming and voice of customer activities.
- Initiate and prepare Engineering Change Order (ECO) documentation, including BOM development.
- Perform necessary calculations to ensure accuracy of dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Strong design skills, particularly with sheet metal and GD&T.
- Experience in creating and managing bills of material.
- Competency in initiating and managing engineering change orders.
- 4+ years of mechanical experience in drafting/design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree preferred in drafting or design.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical design drafting practices.
- Ability to perform basic design calculations such as tolerance stacks and press fits.
- Knowledge in manufacturing processes, including brazing/welding of copper and stainless steel is a plus.
Work Environment
This role involves working with advanced design software and technologies to create innovative products. The position may require hands-on work with prototypes and pilot builds, ensuring a dynamic and engaging work environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anoka, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $45.00/hr.
