The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for designing custom mobile industrial equipment, specifically focusing on water jet equipment. The role requires a mechanical emphasis, particularly in pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Approximately 75% of the role involves design work, while the remaining 25% requires hands-on involvement on the floor to assess manufacturability and collaborate with the fabrication team. This position is highly interactive with manufacturing processes, requiring the candidate to wear multiple hats, including detailing drawings, writing up bills of materials, submitting drawings, and sourcing vendors for parts.
This position is within a world-leading company specializing in high and ultra-high pressure pumping systems and accessories, achieving pressures up to 50,000 psi. The company is a small manufacturing business with around 10 employees based in Kalamazoo. The current facility is being outgrown, with plans for upgrading to a new plant within the next year. The work environment includes a small office space and a substantial area dedicated to CNC machining and pump assembly. The typical work schedule is from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with potential for 0-10 hours of overtime per week if desired.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.
The pay range for this position is $33.66 - $38.47/hr.
