Microstation & CAD Designer

The CAD Designer is responsible for creating accurate and detailed drawings using CAD software based on provided instructions, sketches, and layouts. This role involves working closely with engineers and other team members to produce high-quality drawings for various projects.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare drawings using MicroStation or other CAD software such as AutoCAD according to provided instructions.
• Perform drawing changes and revisions as directed by engineers or project managers.
• Receive supervision, instruction, and review of work to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Follow drafting practices and procedures to produce clear and concise drawings.
• Communicate effectively with team members to understand project requirements and timelines.
• Conduct 3D design of custom equipment design solutions, including physical plans, elevations, and section detail views.
• Develop Bills of Material for all designs, ensuring consistency and quality throughout the design process.
• Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, and engineering leaders.
• Facilitate the development and execute cost reduction programs that may include low-cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction.
• Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency with CAD software, particularly MicroStation.
• 4+ years of industry experience.
• Strong skills in 3D modeling, CAD design, and drafting.
• Experience with Bentley Substation is nice to have.
• Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word.
• Proficiency with Autodesk and Bentley Open Utilities 3D CAD platforms.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Technology or Drafting, or related vocational/technical high school program.
• Basic understanding of drafting practices and procedures.

Work Environment:

This is a hybrid role requiring 4 days onsite and 1 day remote, typically on Fridays. The work schedule is from 8 am to 5 pm, or flexible start times, totaling a 40-hour work week. The campus is undergoing significant investment to build state-of-the-art labs, expand facilities, and create collaboration spaces. These labs are focused on electrification, decarbonization, and next-generation energy systems. The team consists of 14 members across various locations.

This is a Contract position based out of Schenectady, NY.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $46.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
