Substation Designer

We are looking for a Substation Designer with experience in utility or consulting environments. This role requires a strong skillset in substation physical and electrical design. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently on complex design packages while collaborating effectively with engineers and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and revise detailed substation design drawings (one-lines, three-lines, wiring diagrams, physical layouts, grounding, conduit, etc.) using SDS and AutoCAD.
• Interpret engineering specifications, utility standards, and field data to produce accurate and constructible design packages.
• Coordinate with electrical engineers, project managers, and other design staff to ensure design consistency and quality.
• Review and redline drawings for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
• Maintain drawing documentation and version control in accordance with company and client standards.
• Support field teams with design clarifications and revisions during construction.

Required Qualifications:

• 2–10 years of experience in substation design, with a strong focus on physical and electrical layout.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Solid understanding of substation components, protection & control systems, and utility design standards.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, and utility-specific design standards.
• Experience working with transmission and distribution voltages (69kV–500kV).
• Knowledge of document control systems and project lifecycle workflows.

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
