Substation Designer
As a senior lead engineering technician within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, you will be responsible for modifying or creating design deliverables and performing assignments of a design nature. You will apply basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts, providing technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of engineering standards, systems, and document control.
- Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
- Promote quality within the project/group/section by reviewing design inputs for consistency and ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards.
- Apply basic engineering principles in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
- Make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation, providing technical guidance as needed.
- Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, and estimates.
- Use advanced applications such as modeling and design software for work performance.
- Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
- Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers, and communicate these to project team members.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, and technology by developing and communicating design standards and process improvements.
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineering technicians.
- Assist in monitoring staffing levels and resource needs for projects.
Essential Skills:
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology is preferred.

- Intermediate knowledge of engineering calculations and design principles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS).
- Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
- Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
- Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.
- Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
Work Environment:
The role requires the use of electronic applications and programs such as CADD and other information modeling and document storage systems. You will work in a collaborative environment, coordinating with other design group personnel. The position may involve occasional field activities and support.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
