Substation Designer

As a Substation Designer within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions team, you will operate in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. You will modify or create deliverables and perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. You will provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and policies and procedures.
  • Review project requirements and determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
  • Promote quality within project or group and ensure deliverables are in compliance with specific codes and standards.
  • Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
  • Make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
  • Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, estimates, and records using advanced applications such as modeling and design software.
  • Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, and technology development within the department.
  • Assist with performance management, mentoring, and recognition of less experienced engineering technicians.
  • Monitor staffing levels and available skill sets for projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
  • Typically, a minimum of 8 years related work experience
  • Ability to use electronic applications and programs, including CADD and information modeling
  • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends
  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
  • Basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration

Work Environment

The work environment involves the use of various electronic applications and programs, including AutoCAD SDS and Inventor. The role requires collaboration with other design group personnel and may involve supporting field activities. The position demands adherence to established standards and procedures while fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
