Underground Distribution Designer
We are seeking an experienced distribution design professional to serve as the Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) lead for energy projects. This individual will review and validate subdivision layouts, apartment developments, feeder extensions, upgrades, overhead to underground conversions, service removals, and other distribution design packages prior to release for construction.
Responsibilities
- Conduct key reviews of all underground distribution designs including subdivisions, apartments, feeder extensions, and upgrades.
- Validate overhead-to-underground conversion packages, ensuring constructability, safety compliance, and tariff-driven billing accuracy.
- Check work orders, staking sheets, estimates, bills of material, and construction notes for compliance with standards.
- Ensure proper application of CIAC (Contribution in Aid of Construction) charges based on tariffs and regulatory rules.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and field staff to correct deficiencies before design release.
- Provide guidance on design best practices including cable pulling criteria, protective device coordination, and trench/duct bank requirements.
- Track and document QA/QC metrics to support continuous improvement.
- Serve as a technical resource for questions related to underground design, tariff application, and procedures.
Essential Skills
- 5–10 years of electric distribution design experience with a focus on underground systems.
- Prior work for a power utility or utility engineering partner.
- Familiarity with CIAC training and the ability to interpret and apply tariff requirements to new business, extensions, and conversions.
- Strong knowledge of subdivision URD design, commercial underground layouts, and OH-to-UG conversions.
- Proficiency with utility design software, GIS, and work management tools.
- Ability to read and enforce standards and tariff applications.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across engineering, project management, and construction teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with central Florida service territory is preferred.
Work Environment
The role will primarily involve working from home with occasional visits to the client office as needed.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Central Florida.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
