Job Description

AECOM Sudbury is looking for an experienced Civil Technologist to add to its growing team. The position will be in AECOM's Water Business Line and will primarily involve providing CAD and design support for Civil Engineering Staff in AECOM's Sudbury office for the following disciplines: Transportation Group, Linear Infrastructure (Conveyance) Group, Water Resources Group and the Water / Wastewater Group. This role is for a newly created position.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed engineering design drawings related to municipal infrastructure improvement projects, roads, water resources projects and water / wastewater projects using Civil 3D and other Autodesk related programs.
  • Undertake design tasks under the supervision of a project manager or senior team member.
  • Perform both routine and non-routine drafting assignments that require judgment in resolving issues and making design recommendations.
  • Assist with performing onsite investigation tasks to confirm utilities, sewer and watermain locations, alignments, and elevations in addition to other onsite tasks as required to support the design and construction of various civil engineering projects.
  • Make decisions based on a general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve results and to meet project deadlines.
  • Follow project requirements and applicable design standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, environmental planners, technologists, and administrative staff.
  • Monitor project plans and schedules.
  • Participate in meetings with internal staff, subconsultants, and clients.
  • Document meeting decisions and follow up on action items.
  • Contribute to technical reports and studies.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Must have completed a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma plus 4+ years of direct related experience.
  • Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D design experience including modelling of corridors, surfaces, and pipe networks.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous civil design experience with Roads, Water, Wastewater, Storm Water infrastructure
  • Experience with the preparation of engineering design drawings using Civil 3D and other AutoCAD software platforms such as ACC, ProjectWise, Microsoft Teams / SharePoint
  • Experience with the preparation of storm and sanitary sewer area plans and sewer design sheets.
  • Registered or ability to register with OACETT as a Certified Civil Engineering Technologist.
  • Experience with grading design strategies to support land development projects, stormwater management design and servicing strategies.
  • Knowledge of sanitary pumping station and sanitary force main design and surveying techniques.
  • Experience with the duties and responsibilities to provide construction inspection.
  • Ability to deliver work based on project specific budget and schedule constraints.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Effective communication skills with project team members in an office environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proactive and reliable, with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong technical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
