Interior Designer III
AECOM is seeking a creative, talented Interior Designer III to work on a variety of projects that will utilize your experience in corporate, commercial, higher education and mixed-use. This role will be based in our Washington, DC office.

AECOM's Buildings + Places business line is dedicated to design excellence and integrated project delivery solutions with expertise including architecture, interiors, engineering, development, workplace strategy, economic planning, master planning, project management, and construction services. We interface and collaborate with our Transportation, Water, Environment and Advisory business lines daily. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline leaders.
- Under some supervision, may complete design assignments of moderate complexity.
- Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues, and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
- Involved in client-facing interactions including presentations, meetings, answering questions, following up on issues.
- Reviews vendor documents for accuracy and resolves discrepancies.
- Knowledge of construction administration, preparing site observations, review submittals and respond to RFIs.
- Understand and prepares FF&E packages.
- Limited familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.
- Applies education, growing industry knowledge, technical capabilities and experience to perform assignments.
- Experiments with new approaches and shares key learnings with team members
- Accountable for specific portions of a project or process with general oversight
- Learns to be responsive to latest information and adapts to modified approaches when circumstances change
- Prepares designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
- Provides technical guidance and assistance to Jr. Designers and may support the development of less experienced colleagues/designers.
- Advises the Interior Design Director/Leader about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.
- Assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design (CIDA accredited institution) or Architecture degree with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the field of Interior Design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
- Proficiency with Revit, Enscape, Sketch-up, and/or other 3D modeling and rendering software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
- Licenses, and/or certifications preferred: National Council of Architectural Review Boards (NCARB), and/or National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)
- Portfolio submission required to demonstrate skill set.
- Eight (8) years + of experience preferred.
- Clearance is preferred. This role may require a clearance in the future, due to the nature of the role.
- Working knowledge of the application of color, materials, and aesthetic form.
- Familiarity with space planning methodology.
- Working knowledge of contract interiors FF&E market including manufacturers and dealers, and basic experience documenting FF&E specifications
- Working knowledge of CDs and procedures, including MEP coordination and interior detailing.
- Accountable to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills fostering a positive work environment.
- Is collaborative and problem-solving, has a positive outlook, and is adaptable to new procedures, priorities, standards, technologies.
- Comfortable utilizing and learning new skills with digital project tools, including AI.

This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes office work in the Washington DC office. The selected candidate must be available to work in Washington, DC on a scheduled basis.
