Planning & Design Technologist

We're looking for a detail-oriented, customer-focused Planning & Design Technologist to support the delivery of natural gas services across our network. In this role, you'll plan and coordinate customer-driven and system-driven gas installation projects—translating technical requirements, service standards, and pricing models into clear, accurate project plans and customer contracts.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy solving problems, and excel at collaborating with diverse teams, this role offers the perfect blend of field exposure, project coordination, and technical design work.

Your First Year

You'll focus on building a strong understanding of our operations and developing relationships across the organization.

  • Gain a solid understanding of the regulated natural gas business, including planning, operations, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Manage project requests across various internal systems, including GIS mapping tools, SharePoint, customer information systems, financial tools, and materials/estimating platforms.
  • Support field activities by observing installation, repairs, and upgrades, while conducting onsite assessments with customers requiring new or modified services.

Your Second Year

As your knowledge grows, you'll take on more complex and impactful work.

  • Plan and design larger-scale projects such as main extensions, system improvements, hazard mitigation work, meter upgrades, and valve operations.
  • Develop project scopes that outline service offerings, technical requirements, and pricing models.
  • Act as a key point of contact for builders, developers, and internal teams, ensuring clear communication and exceptional customer experience.

What You Bring

  • A post-secondary Engineering Technology Diploma in civil, mechanical, petroleum, piping, or a related discipline.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as a Technologist with ASTTBC.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Additional Details

  • Vacation availability may be limited during operationally critical periods, as outlined in the MoveUp/FortisBC Collective Agreement (Article 14).
  • Shift work, including evenings, nights, or weekends, may be required depending on customer and operational needs.
