Camera EE Design and Testing Manager

Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something — you'll add something. At Apple, innovation comes from individuals working together to build products that transform how people live, create, and communicate. Our Hardware Technology organization develops the cutting-edge camera modules that power Apple's next-generation devices. We are seeking an In-Region Camera EE Design and Tester Manager to lead camera module electrical engineering design, test strategy, and factory operations across our supply chain partners. In this role, you will define and drive electrical design architecture, test methodologies, and manufacturing validation for high-volume camera modules, ensuring they meet Apple's exacting standards for performance, image quality, and reliability while leading multidisciplinary teams across global design, operations, and manufacturing partners.

As an In-Region Camera EE Design and Testing Manager, you will lead the end-to-end electrical engineering design and test development for next-generation camera modules from concept through mass production. This role requires deep expertise in camera module EE architecture, FACA processes, and factory test systems. You will be responsible for defining electrical requirements, designing validation platforms, and deploying test solutions at component suppliers and module assembly partners. Working closely with in-region manufacturing teams, you will ensure seamless integration of design requirements into factory test flows, driving yield improvement and quality excellence across the camera supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Camera Module EE Design & Architecture
  • Define electrical architecture and specifications for camera modules including sensor interfaces, power delivery, signal integrity, and thermal management
  • Drive Substrate/Flex design, component selection, and electrical validation for camera module assemblies
  • Partner with camera design teams to ensure electrical requirements are optimized for performance, manufacturability, and cost
  • Provide technical leadership on high-speed interfaces (ACI, ALPDP, MIPI CSI-2, I2C, SPI) and power management architectures
  • Test System Development & Deployment
  • Define test instrument hardware, firmware, and FPGA requirements and architecture for camera module validation covering optical performance, electrical characterization, and image quality
  • Oversee design and deployment of automated test systems for functional, parametric, and reliability validation at component and module levels
  • Establish test coverage strategies that ensure comprehensive validation of sensor performance, optical alignment, autofocus, and image stabilization
  • Set long-term roadmaps for module-level testing, establishing standards for test coverage, scalability, and data traceability
  • Factory Operations & Supply Chain Management
  • Lead test strategy deployment at FACA sites, component suppliers, and module assembly factories
  • Partner with contract manufacturers to embed test methodologies early in production ramp and sustaining phases
  • Drive yield improvement initiatives through data-driven analysis of factory test results and failure modes
  • Oversee capability assessments and qualification of new test equipment and manufacturing lines
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Program Management
  • Collaborate with hardware design, system architecture, quality, and operations teams to align test strategies with product requirements
  • Provide technical direction on camera validation projects from early development through mass production
  • Champion data-driven decisions through analytics and advanced debug tools to optimize yield, quality, and reliability
  • Influence executive decisions through clear technical recommendations, risk assessments, and factory readiness reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or related technical discipline
  • Experience in camera module electrical design and/or test system development for optical and imaging systems
  • Experience with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, optical measurement systems, and image quality metrology tools
  • Proven track record working with contract manufacturing partners and deploying test solutions in factory environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in camera module engineering, electrical design, or test development with 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in camera module architecture including sensor interfaces (MIPI CSI-2), power management, actuator control (autofocus, OIS), and signal integrity
  • Hands-on experience with FACA processes, module assembly flows, and factory test systems for imaging modules
  • Background in optical system characterization, image quality validation (resolution, MTF, shading, color accuracy), and sensor calibration
  • Experience with component-level testing (image sensors, lenses, actuators, FPCB) and module-level integration validation
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (JMP, MATLAB, Python) and test automation frameworks (LabVIEW, TestStand, custom solutions)
  • Knowledge of reliability testing methodologies for camera modules including thermal cycling, mechanical shock, and environmental stress testing
  • Proven success scaling test systems for high-volume manufacturing and driving yield improvement in mass production
  • Strong foundation in failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and corrective action implementation
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to synthesize technical data for senior leadership and drive alignment across engineering and operations organizations
  • Experience managing in-region technical teams and working effectively across time zones with global partners
