Strategic Communications & Technical Marketing Associate

The Engineering Science Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Staff Marketing Generalist to drive strategic communication and outreach for federal research and transportation programs, with a strong emphasis on writing. Produces clear, engaging, AP-style written materials that translate complex technical and engineering concepts into accessible content for diverse audiences, including policymakers, engineers, contractors, and industry associations. This position is located in Panama City, FL.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Works independently and collaboratively to develop communication strategies, manage outreach campaigns, and support brand and message development.
  • Creates toolkits, videos, webinars, press releases, infographics, and conference materials that connect technical findings to real-world applications.
  • Develop, write, and edit a wide range of communications products including technical summaries, benefit briefs, digital newsletters, presentations, social media content, press releases, implementation toolkits, and video scripts.
  • Collaborate with transportation engineers, researchers, and industry partners to translate technical research into field-applicable communication products.
  • Lead development and coordination of project-specific communication briefs, stakeholder-facing materials, and marketing workflows.
  • Manage logistics and materials for conferences, webinars, speaking engagements, and trade shows.
  • Support and contribute to content hub and branding activities, including the development of audience-specific messaging, infographics, and online media.
  • Track key performance indicators and stakeholder engagement using customer relation management tools; coordinate surveys, feedback loops, and post-event analysis.
  • Serve as liaison for cross-promotion with industry partners; prepare co-branded content and coordinate joint outreach.
  • Help maintain shared editorial calendars, content libraries, and partner collaboration platforms.
  • Contribute to the ongoing refinement of marketing strategies and support the implementation of new tactics as the program evolves.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in technical writing, marketing, or strategic communications.
  • Strong portfolio of AP-style writing, including journalism, technical writing, and marketing samples. Must provide upon request.
  • Experience translating complex technical or engineering content for non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interviewing, writing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting federal agencies or engineering/research organizations.
  • Multimedia production skills (e.g., scriptwriting, coordinating video shoots).
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual.
