Director, Product Management - Head Of Commercial Data Standardization And Data Product Management
At Capital One, data is at the center of everything we do. We are seeking a visionary and talented product leader to serve as the Head of Commercial Data Standardization and Data Product Management. This is a critical leadership position that will spearhead the transformation of our data assets and data products. Your primary mission will be to unlock the power of AI by building a foundation of reliable, consistent, timely, and well-governed data.
You will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy for data standardization and the active management of our commercial data products. The successful candidate will lead a team that drives the adoption of data standards, governs our data products, and ensures they serve as a reliable backbone for our next generation of intelligent applications. You will possess deep subject matter expertise in data product management, data governance, and semantic technologies. This role requires excellent problem-solving, visionary leadership, communication, and judgment to navigate a complex, fast-moving environment and drive significant organizational change.
As the Head Of Commercial Data Standardization And Data Product Management, You Will:
- Establish the Vision & Strategy: Define, socialize, and execute a comprehensive strategy for data standardization and data product management that aligns with our enterprise AI ambitions.
- Lead a High-Performing Team: Attract, inspire, and coach a team of data product managers and ontologists, empowering them to actively manage, model and govern our data products.
- Drive Data Transformation: Lead the charge in transforming our data landscape, establishing frameworks and processes that ensure data is treated as a critical enterprise asset.
- Shape Enterprise Ontology: Work in close partnership with our enterprise data team to develop and implement the commercial-specific components of our data ontology, ensuring it creates a shared language and semantic understanding of our commercial data across the organization.
- Manage High-Value Data Products: Oversee the entire lifecycle of data products, from conception and discovery to delivery and optimization, ensuring they meet the needs of data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Champion and Enforce Data Governance: Implement, monitor, and enforce robust data governance and quality frameworks to ensure our commercial data products are accurate, trustworthy, and secure.
- Provide Expert Consultation: Serve as a central point of contact and consulting body for teams attempting to launch new products and solutions, providing expert advice on data product integration and adherence to data standardization.
- Collaborate and Influence: Partner closely with senior leaders across Technology, AI/ML, and business lines to drive alignment, remove roadblocks, and ensure the successful adoption of your data products and standards.
- Measure Success: Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the performance, adoption, and business impact of data products and standardization initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience working in Product Management, Data Management, or Data Strategy.
- At least 4 years of experience managing people and leading cross-functional teams.
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field.
- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field or an MBA with a quantitative concentration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of your experience specifically in data product management, data governance, or enterprise data strategy.
- Hands-on experience with ontology and knowledge graph development.
- Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing data products and governance frameworks.
- Proven experience delivering data products that directly support and enable large-scale AI and Machine Learning initiatives.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Experience in the financial services industry.
