Product Management

Product management at Capital One is a booming, vibrant craft that requires reimagining the status quo, finding value creation opportunities, and driving innovative and sustainable customer experiences through technology. In this role, you will be a strategic leader focused on our data as a product. You will be responsible for defining the vision and roadmap for a best-in-class data platform that empowers data analysts, and business leaders to make data-driven decisions and build intelligent applications. We believe our investments in data-forward initiatives will result in a company with the scale, brand, capabilities, talent, and values to succeed as the digital revolution transforms our society and our industry.

Capital One Product Framework

In this role, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in five key areas which we consider to be the foundation for successful product management:

  • Human-Centered - You will obsess over the needs of our internal and external data consumers—from business analysts and data scientists to our end customers. You will translate those needs into innovative data solutions, focusing on the accessibility, usability, and integrity of our data products.
  • Business-Focused - You will deliver game-changing outcomes by focusing on the business value of our data. This includes identifying opportunities for data monetization, improving operational efficiency through better data pipelines, and enabling new, data-driven revenue streams.
  • Technology-Driven - You will leverage technology to deliver innovative and resilient data solutions. This involves collaborating with data engineering and machine learning teams to build scalable data models, APIs, and platforms that enable both near-term analytics and long-term value creation.
  • Integrated Problem Solving - You will identify and resolve complex data problems to deliver outcomes while mitigating product risks. This includes tackling challenges related to data quality, schema evolution, system performance, and data governance.
  • Transformational Leadership - You will lead cross-functional teams of data engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers to solve customer problems and drive organizational alignment around a unified data strategy. You will act as an advocate for data literacy and best practices across the company.

What You'll Do

  • Define and Evangelize the Data Product Vision: You will own the strategic direction for our data platform and data products. You'll partner with stakeholders across the company to understand their needs and develop a compelling roadmap that delivers measurable value.
  • Be the Voice of the Data User: Engage with internal and external users to deeply understand their data consumption patterns, pain points, and requirements. You'll translate these insights into clear, prioritized product requirements and user stories for our data engineering teams.
  • Drive Data Quality and Reliability: You will define and track key metrics for our data products, focusing on data quality, freshness, accessibility, and query performance. You'll champion initiatives to improve our data governance and reliability, ensuring our data is a trusted asset.
  • Manage the Data Product Lifecycle: From ideation to launch, you will manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data products. This includes prioritizing new data source integrations, defining data schemas, improving data pipelines, and developing new data APIs.

Collaborate with Technical Teams: Work closely with our data scientists, data engineers, and machine learning engineers to deliver scalable and robust data products. You'll act as the bridge between technical execution and business strategy.
