Credit Risk Analyst for Securities Based Lending (SBL)
The Credit Risk Analyst for Securities Based Lending (SBL) product will play a key role in evaluating and managing risks associated with margin lending to individual customers, backed by securities portfolio. This is a developing professional role focusing on identifying policy gaps and formulating policies, interpreting data and making recommendations. Research and interpretation of factual information. Identifying inconsistencies in data or results, defining business issues and formulating recommendations on policies, procedures or practices.
Integrating established disciplinary knowledge within own specialty area with basic understanding of related industry practices. Good understanding of how the team interacts with others in accomplishing the objectives of the area. Developing working knowledge of industry practices and standards. Limited but direct impact on the business through the quality of the tasks/services provided.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively monitor, assess, and manage credit risk exposures specifically associated with Securities Based Lending (SBL) facilities. This involves an understanding of various financial instruments, market dynamics, and potential vulnerabilities to ensure the portfolio remains within established risk tolerances.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of client portfolios to ensure strict adherence to internal margin requirements and established risk thresholds. This includes leveraging methodologies to identify potential breaches and recommend corrective actions
- Provide critical support for the underwriting process of SBL exposure extension applications. This requires a thorough assessment of client creditworthiness, detailed evaluation of collateral adequacy, and a holistic analysis of overall portfolio risk to inform sound lending decisions.
- Implement and maintain robust mechanisms for the continuous monitoring and evaluation of ongoing credit risk exposures across all active accounts. This ensures timely identification of emerging risks and allows for dynamic adjustments to risk mitigation strategies.
- Support risk escalation processes and exception reviews
- Collaborate with product, legal and operations teams to support new client onboarding and risk-related process improvements
- Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting criteria, credit risk models, collateral valuation methodologies and stress testing frameworks
- Prepare and present regular internal reports and dashboards tracking portfolio risk metrics and credit performance to internal stakeholders
- Support margin call management and liquidity event responses in coordination with Operations
- Analyse individual and aggregate client portfolios to ensure alignment with internal risk appetite and margin requirements
- Work with cross-functional and global teams for governance related matters, sharing information advances/new ideas, understanding policies, and optimizing programs.
Qualifications/ Skills:
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with sound credit judgement
- Detail oriented, with a proactive mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Clear communicator and collaborative team player
- Familiarity with securities (Mutual Funds, Equities, ETFs, fixed income) and market behaviour
- Understanding of credit fundamentals, collateral evaluation, and financial statement analysis
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word and other data tools is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields
- Be a data-oriented thinker that uses the available information to find opportunities.
- Written and verbal communication skills in English
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in credit risk, financial analysis, or a similar role involving risk policy or Collateral management.
Education:
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience
