Electrical/HW Design Engineer
Torch Technologies is seeking an Electrical/HW Design Engineer to join our team. Our Technology Integration and Prototyping Center (TIPC) engineering team is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and integrating complex solutions. The TIPC electronics team is a design-focused group specializing in advanced hardware products for a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. The individual selected for this position must be a self-starter with strong technical skills and a willingness to be a team player in a solution-driven atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in PCB design, including schematic design, firmware development, digital and analog circuit design, PCB layout, and FPGA firmware development.
As an Electrical/HW Design Engineer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:
- Developing and designing highly complex electrical hardware products, from concept to production.
- Creating product specifications, solving technical challenges, and ensuring adherence to performance standards.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, and firmware engineers.
- Developing schematics, testing, and debugging circuit boards and sub-assemblies, developing PCB layouts, and developing FPGA firmware.
Job Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience.
- 12 or more years applicable progressively complex hardware design engineering experience
- Active DoD Secret-level security clearance
- Extensive experience in electrical hardware engineering, with a focus on FPGA design, PCB development, and avionic bus integration.
- Proficiency in VHDL programming for FPGA-based designs.
- Strong understanding of analog design such as 2-wire/3-wire/4-wire sensor interfaces, voltage/current excitation, and low distortion with high fidelity.
- Extensive experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience using lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal generators
- Work well both independently and with a team on complex hardware development projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in avionics, defense, or aerospace hardware development.
- Strong understanding of avionic buses such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, ARINC 818.
- Familiar with MIL-STD-704A Aircraft Electrical Power and DO-160D.
- Experience with designing PCBs with Blind, Buried Vias found in High Density Interconnect (HDI) circuit boards.
- PCB layout experience with RF, analog, and mixed signal PCBs.
- In-depth knowledge of PCB layout techniques, including impedance control and EMI design considerations.
