In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards. This position is for a Smart Plant S3D Designer/Engineer who will prepare 3D designs associated with DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. The GBSD program is the weapon system replacement for the Minuteman III missile systems. Our team is supporting Northrop Grumman and the USAF's nuclear deterrence mission to modernize this ground-based leg of the nuclear triad. This position is responsible for direct production of design work by Bechtel as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work.
Major Responsibilities:
Level 1 Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings. Develops designs for complete and complex PD&P engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed. Assists in constructing detailed scale models. Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations. Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. Participates in constructability reviews.
Level 2 Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit. Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters. Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators). Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
