Field Marketing Manager Japan & Micronesia

Manager, Field Marketing, Japan & Micronesia owns hotel marketing support and communication with focus on providing IHG marketing tools, training, best practices, and other tactical solutions. This position aims to develop hotel marketing capabilities that support hotel commercial performance. The position is also the main interface for hotel marketing community on campaign execution and project management closely collaborating with Campaign Management Team and Digital & Omni Channel Team.

Key scope & responsibilities:

  • Translate corporate strategy and regional and divisional marketing initiatives into practical hotel-level applicability as scale.
  • Maximize the delivery of corporate Marketing initiatives and tools aligned to hotel Strategic Sales & Marketing plans, including Tactical, Enterprise Contribution, Loylaty, and F&B marketing activities.
  • Take a leadership role in coordinating marketing actions to support key need periods and close potential revenue gaps throughout the year.
  • Lead the development of a strong hotel-level Marketing community and culture through regular marketing calls, insights, and communications.
  • Provide structured guidance to hotels on key campaigns, initiatives, and projects through ongoing engagement and status updates.
  • Drive people strategy by upskilling marketing talent and helping sustain best-in-class marketing teams on-property.
  • Provide local market knowledge, marketing expertise, and consulting support to the wider Commercial team (Directors of Commercial, Revenue Performance Directors) and on-property Sales & Marketing leaders.
  • Define how marketing should be executed at hotel level through clear frameworks, guardrails, and playbooks.
  • Build marketing capability through onboarding, toolkits, training, and best-practice sharing.
  • Guide and Support DOC - Director of Commercial.
  • Collaborate with other EAPAC Marketing Managers and MSS teams to develop scalable marketing solutions that can be deployed across the region, benefiting all EAPAC hotels and driving commercial performance.
  • Promote FIeld Marketing Services and Field Marketing Services for Hire.
  • Provide dual-language (Japanese and English) support for Japanese hotels.

A day in life:

You will be in our Tokyo office, developing strategy and plan for providing tactical marketing solutions to the hotels for hotel marketing capability and enhancement, and developing and managing hotel marketing community and forum. You will be executing on providing IHG marketing tools, training, best practices, and other tactical solutions to the hotels. Periodically, you will conduct hotels communication on marketing campaigns and projects in collaboration with Campaign Management and Digital & Omni Channel Teams. Periodically, you will contribute to marketing business reports and annual marketing plan and budgeting. In the office, you will have colleagues in the marketing team or other teams to discuss whenever you need to bounce your ideas or to request support to solve any problem.

Successful candidate:

A successful marketing manager will have a strong Ownership to deliver what is the most relevant to the hotels, Strategic and Analytical skills to identify marketing community enhancement opportunities, attention to Details and obsession to Quality of the hotel marketing initiatives, excellent Communication skills in Japanese and English to be the main interface to the hotels, represent the central marketing team, and conduct complex business discussion with manager, team, and leadership.

About the team:

You will be a part of GMSS - Global Marketing Shared Services organization in Central Office which is responsible for marketing domains such as brand marketing, commercial campaign, paid digital, owned omni channel (website, app, social account, eDM), loyalty program marketing, partnership marketing, and hotel field marketing. Japan & Micronesia GMSS is in our Tokyo office and has subject matter experts delivering for these marketing domains for the covered region.

Educational Attainment:

  • Bachelor's or Master's International Degree in Marketing, Business or Commerce or related disciplines

Critical Expertise & Experience:

  • ~10 years in a Japan Marketing role with proven track record of marketing campaigns roll out
  • Travel and/or Hotel Industry experience preferred
  • Ability to navigate and manage within a global matrix management environment
  • Management experience in a multifunctional team, including business partners and agencies
  • Expertise and demonstrated understanding across a wide area of marketing disciplines i.e. marketing strategy & planning, communications, loyalty programmes & partnerships, channel management, social, PR and training
  • Experience in rolling out large scale digital marketing campaigns, with proven track records of KPIs framework definition & measurement
  • Strong financial, analytical and business acumen

Technical Skills & Knowledge :

  • Understanding of Hotel industry, particularly distribution marketing – including Direct (call center & Internet) - channels & loyalty program - Basic hospitality revenue management principles
  • Superior oral and written communications skills including presentation skills, public speaking ability and group decision facilitation
  • Ability to influence internal customers and business leaders and effectively establish strong working relationships that produce solid results
  • Drive alignment and execution to the business ambitions, translating plans and allocating resources into effective delivery
  • Excellent stakeholder, negotiation and project management skills
  • Ability to perform multiple efforts in a fast paced, high growth environment
  • Japanese: Business proficiency; English: Business proficiency
