Instructional Designer

This role is based remotely, but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta (GA), Austin (TX), Detroit (MI), Warren (MI), or Mountain View (CA) you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

As a part of GM’s Human Resources group you drive the training development, planning, execution/delivery, tracking and reporting. You will be developing training strategy, analyzing/interpreting data to identify areas for improvement, and ensuring successful implementation of high-impact learning solutions. You are a contributor to key business strategies to learning solutions ultimately leading to improved business results.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of end user training materials and learning processes. The candidate must be versatile and able to provide business skills and technical skills training. This role requires experience with delivering technical training for a software development audience.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop training material using instructional design techniques and tools and using various media: Virtual classroom training (VILT), web-based training, instructor led (ILT), self-paced, video conferencing, podcasting, job aids, etc.
  • Gather, analyze, and define end user requirements for training in accordance with business objectives
  • Create, edit and implement instructor materials: course outlines, high level design documents, teaching and visual aids, reference material, instructional materials, training aids, assessments, resource guides, technical manuals, video outlines and teleprompting scripts, etc.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate development of course catalogs, promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, brochures, etc.
  • Evaluate and assess learning outcomes, incorporating feedback into the development cycle
  • Collaborate with Program Manager to develop and support training plans for new system and process introductions
  • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts in the design and development of business and technical training curricula, media, and materials needed, and interact with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for content gathering and validation
  • Schedule, organize, and facilitate the delivery of curriculum and other educational programming
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Skills/experience include:

  • At least four years of experience in course development, curriculum design, training, or e-learning, preferably in technical education
  • Expertise in training development for various delivery methodology: instructor led training, web-based training, job aids, virtual classroom training, and blended learning
  • Experience delivering technical training topics
  • Proficiency in the following tools and systems: Articulate, Vyond, Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Suite: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Work portfolio with relevant ILT/WBT technical and soft skill samples demonstrating a deep understanding of the ADDIE and iterative design course development (SAM) models
  • Experience creating training promotional materials and communications plans using graphic art software
  • Exceptional communication skills working across global audiences and with all levels of management.

Preferred educational experience/qualifications/knowledge/skills include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Certification in Instructional Design with an emphasis on Instructional Design Technology
  • Experience in the automotive industry or a strong understanding of automotive-relevant processes

The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.

  • The salary range for this role is $68,900 - $105,700. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
