Sr Product Designer, Growth, Engagement

GitLab is an open-core software company that develops the most comprehensive AI-powered DevSecOps Platform, used by more than 100,000 organizations. Our mission is to enable everyone to contribute to and co-create the software that powers our world. When everyone can contribute, consumers become contributors, significantly accelerating human progress. Our platform unites teams and organizations, breaking down barriers and redefining what's possible in software development. Thanks to products like Duo Enterprise and Duo Agent Platform, customers get AI benefits at every stage of the SDLC.

The same principles built into our products are reflected in how our team works: we embrace AI as a core productivity multiplier, with all team members expected to incorporate AI into their daily workflows to drive efficiency, innovation, and impact. GitLab is where careers accelerate, innovation flourishes, and every voice is valued. Our high-performance culture is driven by our values and continuous knowledge exchange, enabling our team members to reach their full potential while collaborating with industry leaders to solve complex problems. Co-create the future with us as we build technology that transforms how the world develops software.

About the Role

As a member of the Growth team, you'll play a key role in driving business outcomes by helping users find increased value and efficiency with GitLab. Results for customers is at the top of our values hierarchy because we know that our customers' success directly drives ours. Ensuring a frictionless experience for users who want to get started, trial, purchase, and explore new features is essential to delivering results for our customers. As a designer in this space, you'll be instrumental in making that happen.

The Engagement team is focused on driving deeper product adoption from activated users by improving both the depth and breadth of their GitLab usage. You'll be working on initiatives that help users adopt GitLab as a daily-driver tool and discover additional functionality to meet a wider range of their needs. You'll play a crucial role in designing intelligent, contextual experiences that surface the right information and features to each user at the right time.

What You'll Do:

  • Work alongside UX Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineers to iterate on new features within the GitLab product.
  • Collaborate with teams across the product to design personalized experiences that help users discover relevant content, navigate GitLab's surface area more effectively, and adopt additional functionality that meets their needs.
  • Communicate your design thinking and ideas through wireframes, prototypes, user flows, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs.
  • Help develop hypotheses and establish clear success metrics to test new features or product changes and determine their impact on user experience and business outcomes.
  • Help establish growth methodologies and best practices that other product teams can adopt to improve onboarding, feature adoption, and discoverability within their own areas.
  • Engage with our user base and the wider GitLab community to understand their pain points and work toward long-term fixes that enable them to succeed with their goals.
  • Undertake usability testing to validate your thinking. (We have an excellent team of UX Researchers who can offer guidance, as needed.)
  • Contribute to our Design System, alongside the rest of the UX team and the GitLab community as a whole.

What You'll Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience working as a Growth designer, or working in a growth-relevant area such as onboarding, user acquisition, free-to-paid conversion, feature adoption, etc.
  • Familiarity with product experimentation.
  • Domain knowledge or background in DevSecOps.
  • Experience fostering collaboration across multiple product teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting your own research with a variety of methods, and strong decision making skills for when to do research.
  • Strong visual design skills with the ability to balance leveraging the design system and recognizing when a unique component is needed.

About the Team

Product Design supports the teams at GitLab by becoming experts in our stage group, educating ourselves about the entire product, and staying engaged with user and business goals. We partner closely with our stable counterparts in Product Management and Development. As Product Designers, we are the owners of design judgment. We start with a problem to solve and always first consider what the best experience for the user would be.

How GitLab Will Support You

  • Benefits to support your health, finances, and well-being
  • All remote, asynchronous work environment
  • Flexible Paid Time Off
  • Team Member Resource Groups
  • Equity Compensation & Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Growth and development budget
  • Parental leave
  • Home office support

Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you're excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.
