Architectural Urban Design Support

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to provide architectural and urban design support for City projects and development proposals in support of the City's Vision. Employees in this classification are responsible for preparing and reviewing design plans, developing architectural guidelines and standards, and providing recommendations to improve implementation of City projects. Objective is to support aesthetic improvements to public and private properties through application of the Land Development Code, Architectural Guidelines, and applicable zoning and code regulations.

Examples of duties include:

  • Developing and managing project timelines and deliverables from concept to completion for architectural design projects, focusing on City aesthetics.
  • Developing, coordinating, and preparing design plans for City projects and shall sign and seal plans.
  • Developing and updating architectural guidelines and standards for the City; responsible for implementation of Design Guidelines, including updates.
  • Coordinating architectural design plan projects, including preparation, analysis, review, and presentation.
  • Preparing visual presentation materials and producing 2D and 3D visualizations using specialized design software (e.g., CAD).
  • Coordinating City projects during the design phase including preparing plans; reviews and oversees the inspection of City design projects.
  • Providing minor architectural services to residents and business/property owners for property improvement projects; produces minor plans to assist with project completion.
  • Participates in the review of projects prepared by professional consultants and prepares recommendations.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations for consideration and action by various city, county, and state regulatory and administrative boards.
  • Assists the Zoning Manager and Community Development with various projects in the City.

Typical qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or related field.
  • One to two years of experience as an architect and in urban design.
  • Licensed architect, registered in the State of Florida, is required.
  • AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) is preferred.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
