Under direction of the Commissioner of Engineering and Construction, is responsible for coordinating and assigning workloads to support staff including, but not limited to, the Bureau of Sidewalks, Plats and Surveys, Design, Construction, and Bridges and Docks. Supervises work performed by staff and makes recommendations for improving efficiency and production within the Division. Identifies problems/provides troubleshooting assistance and assists with finding solutions and resources to resolve problems in a timely manner. Performs other job-related duties as required.
A High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Public Works Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited four year college or university is required. Eight years of full time paid experience in bridge and road construction is required. Must have a valid State of Ohio Professional Engineer's License. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
The Mayor's Office of Capital Projects is building a team that will provide for planning, design, construction, and preservation of the City of Cleveland's facilities, infrastructure and real property. The responsibilities of the Design Section Chief are broad in scope, require a high degree of seasoned experience in engineering, and evaluated in terms of overall effectiveness.
Desirable candidates will have experience managing complex infrastructure projects and possess excellent project management, problem-solving, communication and computer and research skills. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability for capital project planning and procuring grant funding from various federal, state and local agencies. They should be detail-oriented and possess strong leadership and motivation skills. Extensive knowledge of ODOT's CMS manual and project development process is necessary. The desirable candidate should have experience discussing projects with various stakeholders and participating in public meetings.
