The Department of Ecology is hiring an E-Cycle/Product Steward Specialist (Environmental Specialist 3) within the Solid Waste Management (SWM) program. Location: Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.
Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options. You may telework most of your work time with occasional in-person meetings and other activities to include field work. Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change.

In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team implementing the E-Cycle program and other Product Stewardship programs in Washington. The laws set requirements for producers of some products, such as electronics, to fund and safely recycle, reuse, or dispose of those products. Your work to help implement these laws gives consumers an environmentally safe alternative to landfill disposal. Work includes maintaining and managing producer data, conducting in-person outreach and facility inspections, and providing technical assistance to businesses that must comply with the laws. Professional development opportunities include attending trainings to increase your knowledge and skills associated with engagement and other aspects of law and rule implementation.
What you will do:
Six (6) years of experience and/or education as described below Experience performing environmental-based work, OR work related to the duties of the position, that include all of the following:
Experience must include demonstrated competence in the following skill sets:
Education involving a major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences; environmental or natural science interdisciplinary studies; environmental planning, geography, social dynamics of energy behavior, computer science, data analytics or an academic discipline related to the duties of the position.

Desired Qualifications: Ability to: compute fee calculations, use sound independent judgment in making decisions on environmental problems and completing assigned tasks, using critical / analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to perform work tasks, reviewing and understanding information to apply it to the work, make oral presentations, understand and communicate complex environmental regulations and statutes. Experience with: Billing and Revenue Tracking System for invoicing and payments, Product Stewardship: Basic understanding of product stewardship/manufacturer responsibility concepts.
