Graphic Designer

The purpose of this position is to support the City of Peoria's brand and utilize graphic design techniques to promote city programs, events, policies, and strategic priorities. This is accomplished by collaborating with the Office of Communications Team and other city departments to provide professional level graphic design, desktop publishing services, and coordinating printing and distribution of completed work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with all city departments and council support staff to understand design needs and provide expert guidance, ensuring high-quality final products.
  • Creating original graphic content including illustrations, artwork, typography, and photography for various campaigns and special projects.
  • Designing and producing a wide range of materials such as forms, brochures, newsletters, manuals, reports, charts, maps, promotional items, flyers, web pages, print and digital ads, banners, signage, PowerPoint templates, and branded stationery.
  • Planning and evaluating technical aspects of design production including typesetting, printing processes, photography, and related equipment.
  • Editing and refining copy for print advertisements and other communications materials.
  • Managing all aspects of print and production vendor relationships, including sourcing and evaluating vendors, negotiating pricing, maintaining quality standards, and overseeing timelines and issue resolution.
  • Leading citywide design projects by setting priorities, managing timelines and budgets, and establishing clear procedures for successful project delivery.
  • Assessing and recommending computer hardware and software based on current project needs and evolving technologies.
  • Delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines, especially for time-sensitive or high-priority projects.
  • Proofing final drafts of all materials to ensure accuracy and consistency in copy and design before production.
  • Providing guidance and direction to interns and temporary graphic design staff as needed.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in art, graphic design, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License required upon hire.

Preferred/desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience in a municipal or government setting.
  • Experience with scoping and capturing photographs for use in print and web design.
  • Project management principles and techniques.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Preferred software experience: Adobe Creative Suite / Cloud, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Stock, AI platforms.
