Learning Designer

Located within the Provost portfolio, the Online Strategy Unit (OSU) will drive the creation and implementation of a transformative vision for online education programming through strategic leadership and oversight of the growth and expansion of the University's online learning programs.

Building on Griffith's already well-recognised synchronous and hybrid online offerings, the Unit is developing a suite of degrees in partnership with all Academic Groups for delivery in a cutting edge, high quality, technology-enabled and student-focused learning design model.

Reporting to the Senior Learning Designer, this position will play a key role in the development of fully online degrees. This position also works in collaboration with members of the University community and other staff to design and develop student centred resources that engage students in rich technology enabled learning experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work as an effective and collaborative member of the OSU to develop high quality fully online courses as per the design and resource requirements of the Unit.
  • Effectively partner with academics, students, OSU members and key stakeholders to design, develop and evaluate high-quality active, authentic, and collaborative student-centred learning experiences for fully online delivery.
  • Integrate contemporary learning and teaching strategies to guide course, program, and resource, design including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Students as partners, and social learning, while following the principles of constructive alignment.
  • Collaboratively design diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to foster the development of authentic and transferable skills, with a view to improving employability outcomes and producing graduates confident to face the future.
  • Advise and support clients and stakeholders, as needed, during the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of resources, courses and programs that support the strategies, goals, objectives and standards of Griffith University.
  • Critically assess and adapt existing learning and teaching resources and activities materials with consideration for accessibility, reusability and new course and program requirements.
  • Use current and emerging educational technologies to create solutions within the agreed OSU design models for learning while scaffolding development of academic and student skills and capabilities.
  • Facilitate the integration of services and digital resources, from across Griffith University, into courses and programs to support student learning experiences.
  • Ensure the efficient management of learning design and development projects, including:
    • Managing stakeholder engagement and expectations
    • Scoping projects and preparing work estimates ensuring the efficient use of project resources in collaboration with the OSU project coordination team
    • Maintaining relevant documentation and data records
    • Delivering outcomes in line with budget and quality objectives
    • Efficiently managing multiple complex projects simultaneously with shared resources and competing deadlines.
  • Design, develop and deliver professional learning programs for academics and other professional staff to build the University's capacity to achieve strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health and safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
  • May be required to take on other responsibilities, commensurate with the expectations of a role at this level, which contribute to the overall objectives of the work unit.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • The occupant of this position will hold postgraduate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (such as Instructional Design or Teaching) or equivalent industry experience, and experience working in learning and teaching.
  • Candidates must have full unrestricted Australian work rights and may be subject to a National criminal history check.

This is a fixed term opportunity until 13/12/2027 based at our Logan campus. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other campuses.

Salary is HEW 8 – Base range - $113,713.03 - $127,923.91 + 17% super. Full package range - $133,044.25 - $149,670.98.
