The HDR Kingston office is looking for design focused co-op students who are self-motivated learners and are looking to get the most out of their term. We work on a wide variety of architectural projects of varying scales and scopes. We are a team of 12 designers working with clients in the healthcare, post-secondary education, science and technology, civic, and commercial sectors.

Responsibilities: The role of the co-op student within the office is to work with architects and other team members on a variety of tasks throughout the design and construction process. Depending on the student's experience and proficiency, tasks may include assisting in the production of schematic design, design development and contract documents including preparation of floor plans, elevations, details, sections and schedules; producing 3D views and renderings; applying architectural procedures and techniques; independently performing architectural assignments with instruction from senior team members; and working on contract administration duties.

Required Skills

  • Revit 2020 and higher
  • AutoCAD 2020 or higher
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Photoshop
  • Knowledge of building technology and assembly, construction methodologies and material applications
  • Ability in multitasking while maintaining high levels of proficiency
  • Well organized with an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of the team.

Preferred Skills

  • Rhino
  • Enscape (rendering plugin for Revit and Rhino)
  • SketchUp
  • InDesign
  • Other visualization specialties

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Attention to detail
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
