IT Intern-AI Product Management

IT Interns will apply their knowledge and experience in a fast-paced, innovative company, all while working with the latest technology and tools. Interns will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor. If you are passionate about processes, efficiency gains, development, security, or a data junkie, our internship is for you. We will have multiple internships each year, each will be focused on one area of IT during the internship.

Position Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or related program at an accredited university.
  • For security internships, some understanding of cybersecurity tools, challenges, and approaches.
  • For project management internships, some understanding of development life cycles, change management.
  • For data services internships, some understanding of analyzing various data sources and merging data to determine if trends are in line with business data standards. Working knowledge of C#, Python, Power BI, or other data visualization tools. SQL query writing or analyzing skills to help with creating new queries and optimizing existing in support of our reporting, monitoring, and automation initiatives.
  • For development internships – some coding or user interface understanding and experience, including but not limited to C#, Python, API management, etc.
  • For operations internships – understanding of desktop/laptop hardware and Microsoft software, some understanding of networking equipment, approaches, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to seek out technical solutions and be self-directed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced virtual environment, while communicating with internal stakeholders regarding status of key deliverables.
  • Task-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Get hands-on experience in different technology focus areas:
    • Developers: Work in a team to build a new custom application and learn about solution architecture, coding best practices, etc. See the software development lifecycle in action.
    • Data services: Work in a team to move data around the new modern data flows and repositories. Stage and analyze data to deliver new business insights. Get exposure to AI/ML as we work to solve business issues.
    • Security: Work in a team to ensure a complex enterprise landscape. Work a detection from the ground up. Understand compromise planning and workflows.
    • Project work: Work in a team to take on a project, including capturing, analyzing the opportunity, creating the potential solutions, and learn how to present ideas and solicit support. Understand how PMOs run and change management at the enterprise level.
    • Actively participate in discussions regarding process improvement to develop new ways of delivering products and services to meet the growing needs of the business.
    • Facilitate an AI community at Hensel Phelps by connecting employees, processes, and AI technologies in a format that encourages collaboration.
    • Share AI best practices, success stories, and practical tips through internal communications and events.
    • Organize and promote AI trainings and workshops to help employees learn and apply AI tools.
    • Source new AI use cases from the HP AI community and document business requirements to support development and implementation.
    • Collect feedback to improve community activities and highlight impactful AI projects.
    • Advocate for responsible and ethical AI use across the organization.
    • Actively participate in discussions regarding process improvement to develop new ways of delivering products and services to meet the growing needs of the business.
    • Actively engage with IT team members and leadership to gain broad and specific technical topics.

Physical Work Classification & Demands:

• Light Work. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

• The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.

• Walking - The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.

• Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer.

• The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.

• Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.

• Constantly reads written communications and views email submissions.

• The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.

• Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.

• Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures

• Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Compensation Range (Colorado Only)

Hourly Rate: $16.00 – $18.00
