SMT Manufacturing Equipment Technician

This Role Is A Third Shift Role, Mon-Fri, 11pm To 7am, With Saturdays Also Required Until Further Notice

The SMT Manufacturing Equipment Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and optimization of Fuji NXT SMT equipment. This role ensures machines are properly configured, maintained, and operated to achieve high throughput, accuracy, and quality standards in PCB assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Configuration

    • Understand the architecture and working principles of Fuji NXT modules (M3, M6, M6S, etc.).

    • Perform accurate installation of heads, feeders, nozzles, and cameras based on product-specific configurations.

    • Validate machine readiness prior to production runs.

  • Program Programming & Optimization

    • Develop and edit SMT programs to improve efficiency and reduce cycle time.

    • Set up fiducial/alignment marks, configure component recognition, and troubleshoot vision system issues.

    • Perform program simulations and dry runs to verify accuracy and reliability.

  • Machine Operation

    • Operate Fuji machines through HMI interface with a high level of proficiency.

    • Monitor live production and quickly respond to machine errors or anomalies.

    • Ensure accurate component placement and verify mounting quality.

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting

    • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on heads, feeders, nozzles, rails, cameras, motors, and vacuum systems.

    • Diagnose and repair issues including feeder jams, vision system faults, and X/Y/Z axis misalignments.

    • Replace, calibrate, and test electromechanical parts such as sensors, encoders, and motor drivers.

  • Material and Tool Management

    • Track and manage feeder and nozzle allocation using software tools (e.g., Nexim, Flexa).

    • Maintain a clean and organized work area with proper tool storage and identification.

    • Ensure traceability and proper documentation of machine configuration history.

  • Productivity and Quality Improvement

    • Analyze and troubleshoot placement errors including misalignment, missing parts, and polarity issues.

    • Implement corrective actions to reduce machine downtime and improve line efficiency.

    • Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives in SMT line performance.

  • Cross-Functional Support

    • Provide technical support and feedback to Quality, Industrial Engineering, Test Engineering, and Process teams.

    • Support new product introduction (NPI) and line changeover activities.

    • Train operators and junior technicians on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Fuji NXT SMT equipment and related software tools.

  • Proficient in SMT programming, component recognition, and machine vision systems.

  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical maintenance and fault diagnosis.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with Flexa, Nexim, or equivalent SMT management systems.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced electronics manufacturing floor.

  • May require off-shift work or on-call support during critical production schedules.

Education And Minimum Requirements

  • BS or Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related technical field.

  • 4+ years of experience in an SMT manufacturing environment, preferably with Fuji NXT platforms.
