Game Designer, Mathematician

This is a senior creative and quantitative role at the core of online casino game development, where mathematics and game design come together to shape player experiences at scale. You will design the underlying logic, probability systems, and engagement mechanics that define how original slot and casino games behave, feel, and perform. Working within a fast-moving, regulated gaming environment, you will own the full lifecycle from concept and feature definition through mathematical modeling, simulation, and validation. The role blends deep analytical thinking with game creativity, ensuring every design is both mathematically sound and commercially compelling. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and creative teams to bring new game ideas to life. Your work will directly influence player engagement, game performance, and long-term product success.

Accountabilities

  • Design and define core game mechanics, including base gameplay, bonus systems, jackpots, and meta-game features
  • Develop full mathematical models for games, including RTP, volatility, hit frequency, and payout structures
  • Create and maintain PAR sheets, combination sheets, and regulatory documentation for certification and approvals
  • Define symbol systems, paytables, reel structures, win conditions, and feature trigger logic
  • Build and run simulation models to validate game behavior, test edge cases, and ensure mathematical accuracy
  • Prototype game mechanics using scripting or programming languages to test early-stage concepts
  • Translate game ideas into structured Game Design Documents for engineering, art, and production teams
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory math requirements across different markets and jurisdictions
  • Analyze live game performance data and recommend tuning or optimization of mechanics and math models
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate implementation accuracy and ensure design fidelity
  • Partner with product and creative teams to refine concepts and align mechanics with player experience goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, or related quantitative field (Master's preferred)
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in slot game mathematics and/or casino game design (land-based or online)
  • Strong expertise in RTP modeling, probability theory, volatility, combinatorics, and statistical analysis
  • Proven experience designing slot mechanics, bonus systems, jackpots, and paytable structures
  • Proficiency in simulation and scripting tools (Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills for modeling and data analysis
  • Strong understanding of PAR sheets and regulatory documentation requirements
  • Knowledge of player psychology and engagement mechanics in casino-style games
  • Ability to translate complex mathematical models into clear design documentation
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience in regulated gaming environments strongly preferred

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $160,000 – $180,000 USD annually
  • Discretionary annual bonus (role-dependent eligibility)
  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to 4%
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance (HSA & FSA options)
  • Paid time off (eligibility varies by role)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Flexible, people-focused work environment with strong autonomy
  • Opportunity to shape innovative, high-impact casino game products
  • Collaborative culture with strong emphasis on creativity and professional growth
