Director, Design/Construction Projects

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this director position is also responsible for all phases of the design and/or construction process of highly complex construction and/or refurbishment projects, or series of projects, generally in excess of $250 million in cumulative budget responsibility; defining project parameters in terms of time, money, physical objectives and outside constraints; guiding the work of project teams comprised of facility personnel, project staff, general contractors, and internal/external consultants; directing teams in establishing scope, budget and schedule, and maintains such commitments through design, construction, and close-out processes; and ensuring KP goals for client service are continuously met through the design and construction process.

This role is also responsible for providing direction and guidance during all design stages of medical and/or regional facilities, including overseeing economic comparisons of development schemes and recommending options in conformance to master plan; negotiating fees, and approving consultant and contractor invoices and change orders; negotiating with local and state jurisdictions; directing the timely procurement of all permits required by regulatory authorities; and overseeing on-site design and/or construction teams, and communicating goals and program status with KP leadership.

Essential responsibilities include: preparing individuals for growth opportunities and advancement; building internal collaborative networks; driving collaboration to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to foster performance improvement; demonstrating continuous learning; overseeing the recruitment, selection, and development of talent; ensuring performance management guidelines and expectations to achieve business needs; staying up to date with organizational best practices; motivating and empowering teams; maintaining a highly skilled and engaged workforce; providing guidance when difficult decisions need to be made; creating opportunities for expanded scope of decision making and impact; overseeing the operation of multiple units within a department; ensuring the management of work assignment completion; translating business strategy into actionable business requirements; ensuring products and/or services meet member requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies; gaining cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assuming responsibility for decision making; setting standards, measuring progress, and fostering resolution of escalated issues; communicating goals and objectives; analyzing resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; prioritizing and distributing resources; removing obstacles that impact performance; guiding performance and developing contingency plans accordingly; ensuring teams accomplish business objectives; directing the delivery of large-scale projects; reviewing project plans and determining project demands; overseeing management of the project financials of assigned projects; reviewing performance across a portfolio of projects; developing processes and procedures for the development and execution of organizational change management; directing project teams and holding teams accountable for results; overseeing the decisions of others in reference to internal and/or external resource requests; leveraging expertise to create a clear vision of overall project goals and objectives; delivering performance feedback; proactively monitoring, identifying, and mitigating project risks, issues, and trigger events; directing adherence of project activities to policies and procedures; directing the alignment, buy-in, engagement and support of diverse project stakeholders; overseeing vendor performance; and partnering with Procurement and/or Legal to develop service level and/or scope of work agreements.

Minimum qualifications include: six (6) years experience in construction and/or design project management; four (4) years experience in a leadership role with direct reports; four (4) years experience implementing large, complex projects in a corporate, non-profit, or government environment; three (3) years experience managing operational or project budgets; and a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and minimum ten (10) years experience in project management or a directly related field OR minimum thirteen (13) years experience in project management or a directly related field.
