Subject Field
Applied Urban Design with specialization in Spatial Analysis
Subject Description
Applied urban design research develops knowledge and understanding of built structures and urban systems and how the built environment affects people's everyday lives and urban processes. The research includes urban morphology, spatial analysis, and urban space analysis, including space syntax. Through research, Applied urban design develops theories, methods, and approaches that support sustainable and just living environments that are characterized by equal living conditions and a sustainable society designed to meet climate change.
The subject field of applied urban design includes the development of theories and methods as well as research into urban design practice with a close connection to planning. The specialization includes spatial urban analysis, urban form analysis, digitalization, urban morphology, space syntax, and modeling.
The subject field belongs within architecture and concerns the development of knowledge about cities and communities, specifically how built structures and artifacts affect people's everyday life, living conditions, and sustainable development. The subject field is cross- and interdisciplinary and integrates technology, natural and social sciences as well as humanities and design.
