Senior Technical Designer

In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end technical development of our product lines, driving innovation and ensuring consistent fit, quality, and performance. You will lead a talented team of technical designers, managing both product development and the workflow within your categories while partnering with cross-functional teams to translate design vision into reality.

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will have a strategic influence on product quality and production efficiency, offering guidance on technical issues and opportunities for improvement across all stages of product development. Your leadership will help foster a high-performing team environment, and your ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners will be key to achieving successful product outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive the technical design process, ensuring the seamless integration of fit, material, specifications, and construction elements across multiple product categories and channels.
  • Manage and mentor a team of technical designers, providing direction and professional development opportunities to foster a collaborative, high-performing culture. Set clear expectations, and ensure alignment on departmental goals.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between design, product development, merchandising, sourcing, and manufacturing. Drive consensus on all technical decisions, ensuring alignment with design vision and production capabilities.
  • Lead the technical evaluation and fit process for all assigned products, by product category, ensuring alignment with quality standards and company objectives. Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to optimize fit, construction, and durability.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of products, managing technical specifications and ensuring clear communication to guarantee product quality and on-time delivery.
  • Proactively drive initiatives to innovate garment construction and enhance cost savings. Lead efforts to optimize both design and production processes, ensuring consistency across categories and product lines.
  • Create, approve, and track accurate technical documentation, including product specifications, technical sketches, and construction details. Ensure all information is aligned with production timelines and company standards.
  • Lead the identification and resolution of technical issues related to fit, production, quality, and costing. Develop action plans and provide solutions that support the product's lifecycle from design to production.
  • Manage and lead fit sessions, ensuring all relevant comments and adjustments are accurately documented and executed. Take full ownership of your product categories, ensuring the product meets fit expectations and deadlines.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies for continuous improvement within the technical design process. Implement best practices, monitor post-production performance, and drive efficiency and quality.
  • Review and synthesize return data and fit related feedback in partnership with each Technical Designer across assigned product categories; identify reoccurring issues and work closely with the department manager or director of Technical Design to determine root cause and define actionable next steps for future delivering orders or impacted styles.

Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in technical design or product development, with demonstrated expertise in leading teams and managing complex projects in the fashion or apparel industry.
  • Deep understanding of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and fabric characteristics. Expertise in technical design tools such as PLM, 2D and 3D software (e.g., Browzwear), and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Proven ability to manage and inspire a team of technical designers. Focus on coaching, guiding, and developing team members while maintaining a strong team culture centered on collaboration and innovation.
  • Ability to assess and address fit, quality, and production challenges using data-driven analysis. Develop and implement corrective actions that enhance product performance and reduce risks.
  • Experience managing global supplier relationships, ensuring technical specifications are met, and managing production timelines across multiple international sources.
