Designer III – Motion Designer (Creative Tools)
A leading consumer technology company is seeking an experienced Motion Designer to join its in-product design studio. This role focuses on creating high-quality motion assets for creative tools, including text effects, video transitions, and video effects used by millions of creators. The ideal candidate blends strong visual craft with technical fluency, working closely with creative coders and technical artists to bring motion systems to life in real-time environments.
This is a hands-on production role within a multidisciplinary design team that includes product designers, visual designers, creative technologists, animators, and art directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and produce motion assets for creative tools libraries, including:
- Text effects
- Video transitions
- Video effects
- Collaborate with creative coders to refine designs within internal prototyping tools and real-time product builds.
- Translate motion concepts into clear specifications for engineering partners, including:
- Naming conventions
- Parameters and constraints
- Usage guidelines
- Visual references and examples
- Prepare detailed documentation and handoff materials to ensure smooth implementation.
- Work under the direction of a Creative Director or Art Director to maintain consistency, quality, and alignment with the broader design system.
- Iterate quickly in response to feedback, technical constraints, and evolving product needs.
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of experience designing and producing motion graphics and visual effects for real-time products, interactive experiences, or creative tools.
- Proven expertise in VFX, animated graphics, and motion systems with strong timing, polish, and visual taste.
- Advanced proficiency in After Effects and Figma, including:
- Building and organizing effect systems
- Iterating on motion studies
- Preparing production-ready files
- Experience collaborating with technical artists or creative coders to translate designs into:
- Shaders
- Post-processing effects
- Real-time implementations
- Experience working within a technical creative pipeline, including prototyping, iteration, and engineering handoff.
- Background in filmmaking, editing, or short-form video production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 3D and real-time VFX, including:
- Depth
- Particles
- Lighting styles
- Real-time performance constraints
- Proficiency with prototyping workflows and rapid iteration tools.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted creative workflows, such as:
- Texture generation
- Motion exploration
- Style variation
- Knowledge of color grading, LUTs, and post-processing techniques.
Team & Work Environment
You will join a multidisciplinary design studio focused on building meaningful, creator-facing in-product experiences. The team includes product designers, visual designers, creative coders, technologists, animators, illustrators, and program managers. This role reports to a design lead or creative director and contributes directly to high-visibility, shippable creative tools.
