Director, Global Sales Compensation Strategic Design and Planning

At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. This role is based in our San Francisco or Mountain View location.

We are looking for a seasoned Director of Global Sales Compensation Strategic Design and Planning to join our team responsible to lead the overall compensation incentive design, policy, governance and field enablement implementation and strategy within our Monetization Strategic Finance organization.

In this role, you will lead a team of subject matter experts in their respective areas, partner with senior leadership across Sales, GTM Ops, Legal, HR, and Finance teams in compensation design and strategic planning to identify and recommend growth and leverage opportunities to drive the go-to-market (GTM) strategy growth initiatives. This involves the candidate to ensure effective coordination, development, implementation and optimization of sales compensation programs across the compensation ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is a data-driven leader with expertise in performance-based compensation incentive structures, commission modeling, enablement training, and compliance. This person will provide strategic guidance and direction, along with analyzing data and removing business obstacles. The expectation is for this leader to be a visionary and lead in a challenging and extremely fast-paced environment, while also having the grace and willingness to change direction when circumstances demand.

Responsibilities

Strategic Thinking

  • Lead the strategy across our global and line of business compensation design, policy, mid-year planning, pilots, spiffs, and other compensation programs to align with the go-to-market strategy
  • Stay informed of the latest industry trends and practices in sales compensation
  • Exhibit strong commercial acumen, understanding the impact of compensation decisions on business operations and financial outcomes.

Stakeholder Influence

  • Partner with sales and finance leadership to understand business needs, identify business problems, resolve challenges, and make informed recommendations on a wide range of business issues.
  • Effectively communicate and present complex compensation solutions, offering data-driven insights and market best practices that lead to innovative recommendations

Execution & Organization

  • Develop clear, concise and effective content to address complex issues and questions, with ability to communicate across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Adapt to changing business priorities, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in managing shifting demands and expectations.
  • Ensure that all incentive compensation policies and practices comply with all other internal policies, regulatory requirements, including labor laws and financial reporting standards.

Performance Management

  • Partner with the Global Technology Solutions team and the Global Operations and Business Solutions team to ensure compensation plans are designed with efficiency and effectiveness as part of our design principles
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality with sensitive information, while consistently driving to get things done.

Culture & Values

  • Foster an environment of excellence and inclusiveness within the team, providing mentorship in alignment with the culture and values of the organization, including people development and diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Lead a high performing team through effective coaching, performance management and consistent evaluation of their initiatives and outcomes.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Analytics, Finance, or related field AND minimum of 12 years of experience in Sales Compensation, Sales Operations, Finance, Finance Accounting, Management Consulting or related field OR equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of people management experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in the technology industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including Power BI, Power Automate, Visio, Project, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CoPilot, and Viva.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Strategic thinker with proven experience in change management within a fast-paced, technology-centric organization.
  • Self-starter with a proactive, "get things done" mentality, capable of focusing on system-wide solutions rather than sub-system fixes.
  • Strong ability to logically and efficiently structure solutions to ambiguous problems, conduct impact analysis, identify key insights, and recommend actionable plans.
  • Growth mindset with the ability to act as a change agent, driving improvements across the compensation ecosystem.
  • Advanced analytical and modeling skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze data and present findings concisely to leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and positively influence cross-functional leaders and stakeholders involved in the incentive compensation management process, including Sales leadership, GTM Ops, Finance, Human Resources, and Legal.
  • Ability to partner with all business levels to make informed decisions and deliver solutions that meet desired outcomes.
  • Robust planning and time management skills, adept at managing multiple deliverables within tight timelines.
  • Excellent people and interpersonal skills, with the capability to assertively support a dynamic sales organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
