The Search Engine Marketing Specialist manages SEM campaigns for the Macy's business, overseeing the creation, execution, and optimization of campaigns across various search engine platforms. This role conducts keyword research, writes and implements compelling ad copy, and analyzes performance data to drive continuous improvement. The Specialist also manages complex bid strategies to maximize return on ad spend (ROAS).
What You Will Do
- Develop and execute successful SEM campaigns across platforms including Google Ads, Bing, and others.
- Conduct keyword research and analysis to identify high-value terms and optimize campaign targeting.
- Write compelling ad copy and recommend effective landing pages to drive higher click-through and conversion rates.
- Monitor and analyze campaign performance data, making real-time adjustments to improve results.
- Stay current on industry trends, new advertising platforms, and policy changes to ensure compliance and maximize effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including communications planning, marketing effectiveness, and site merchandising teams.
- Provide regular performance reports, offering insights and actionable recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Manage SEM budgets and allocate spend strategically to maximize return on ad spend (ROAS).
- Remain available during peak holiday periods to support campaign monitoring and optimization.
- Conduct A/B tests and other experiments to enhance performance and identify best practices.
- Continuously optimize campaigns to improve key metrics such as conversion rates and ROAS.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
Skills You Will Need
- Search Engine Campaign Management – Hands-on experience in planning, executing, and optimizing SEM campaigns across platforms such as Google Ads and Bing.
- Keyword Research & Targeting – Strong capability in identifying high-performing keywords and aligning them to campaign goals.
- Ad Copy & Landing Page Optimization – Skilled in writing compelling ad copy and recommending or testing landing pages to improve CTR and conversion rates.
- Shopping Feed Management – Familiarity with tools like ProductsUp and platforms such as Skai (formerly Kenshoo) for managing product feeds and paid search campaigns.
- Performance Analytics – Proficient in using Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or similar tools to analyze campaign data and derive actionable insights.
- Bid & Budget Strategy – Knowledge of bidding strategies, pacing, and budget allocation to drive efficiency and maximize ROAS.
- A/B Testing & Experimentation – Experience designing and interpreting tests to identify performance improvements and best practices.
- Data-Driven Decision Making – Able to translate complex data into clear insights that inform strategy.
- Creative and Strategic Thinking – Combines creative ad strategy with technical know-how to deliver results.
- Continuous Optimization – Demonstrates a mindset of ongoing improvement, testing, and refinement.
- Cross-Functional Partnership – Collaborates effectively with teams across marketing, comms planning, and site merchandising.
- Stakeholder Communication – Clearly and regularly communicates campaign performance, insights, and recommendations.
- Presentation Skills – Able to present complex information in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
- Adaptability – Comfortable navigating evolving priorities, including high-volume retail periods like the holiday season.
- Certifications – Google Ads and Google Analytics certifications are highly desirable.
- Tools – Familiarity with SEM tools and platforms including Skai, ProductsUp, and tag management systems.
Who You Are
- Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 1-3 years of related experience.
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
